Greetings Everyone, and thank you for stopping by!

I am Martha–traveler, dreamer, aspiring writer, scheming eventual entrepreneur. Washington DC is my home. It’s a  place where it seems everybody defines themselves by what they do. “Oh, I am a lawyer,” or “I am the program director at (insert non-profit, think tank, government agency).” While a lot can be said for one’s job–after all, it is what pays the bills, I want to know what people aspire to be. Everyone is an artist, even though they may not realize it yet.

So here is my take. I work for The Man. It’s a good gig for now. But my passion is deeply rooted in travel and the ideas and thoughts and feelings that present themselves when I am on the road, put into an uncomfortable situation, such the visit from the Dysentery Fairy on a 15-hour train ride through Vietnam, or waking up with frogs beside me in the Amazon.  The travel bug bit early—I wandered off by myself on an afternoon family trip to Nogales, Mexico when I was nine and have dreamt and planned for exotic journeys since then. I have travelled to 42 countries and the whole time, I was writing, observing, and emoting furiously. Now, it is time to take that content and share it  “as-is” if I can, or, when necessary because the observations don’t make any sense, reflect on that actual event that I wrote about with the luxury of 20/20 hindsight.

This is not your typical travel blog. I will not tell you how to pack your suitcase or how to score hotel deals in Rome. What you will find here, however, are my essays, observations, and stories from my travels. The content is as accurate and factual as I can remember. That being said, sometimes memory deceives us.  Given the years of writing and hundreds of pages scrawled with my ineligible handwriting,  conveying them via blog is a bit of a Herculean task. However, I will work as prolifically as possible to publish new material.
